du is a one of a kind chair

Never before has the problem of getting up and down from a chair been addressed in such an innovative and scientific way.

Never before has a single chair created so much lifestyle independence and fostered better health and wellbeing.

This is no ordinary chair. This is a revolution in design and thinking. No other chair comes close to how du works. It’s not just different. It’s better. That's why we had to invent it.

"I haven't seen anything quite like this chair… the du chair is very, very unique on the market. Anything that can help people stay at home longer, and have greater independent living, has got to be praised."

Prof. Graham Kerr
School of Exercise & Nutrition Sciences, QUT

"One of the things I like about the chair is the ability to change the tension on the chair to stand up and sit down. If I'm getting a bit tired towards the end of the day, I can make it a lot easier to sit down and stand up."

"I'm so happy to see that Ian and his team… came up with an incredible idea - the du chair, which solves… issues in a really innovative and exciting way."

Prof. Thea Blackler
Associate Dean Research for the Faculty of Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice, Professor, School of Design, QUT

"There are people with movement coordination difficulties… muscular dystrophy… neuropathies, a whole lot of things that affect how people coordinate movement. The du chair can provide a lot of assistance in all of those populations."

du for health
em>professionals em>

I believe the du chair is actually keeping me active and keeping me using my muscles. I've got muscular dystrophy… I find that I can put the energy into sitting down easily, and I can also stand quite easily. And it's tailored for my particular weight. I find that it's a lot better than the electric lifter chairs that I've tried. I think you become a bit too reliant on them.

Alan, du chair customer

We’ve listened intently to health industry professionals such as Occupational Therapists throughout the development of du. It was clear that so called “lift assist” chairs did very little assisting at all in terms of supporting people to have healthier lives.

The main difference between du and an electric powered lift assist chair is that du works with you, not for you – helping you maintain core body strength and muscle conditioning. With so many people wanting to stay in their own home longer without support, du forms a crucial part of the puzzle.

The story of how
du em>came to be. em>

After decades spent servicing the aged care sector, du founder Ian Reinhardt identified a major problem. Many people of an advanced age struggled to get in and out of a chair without some kind of assistance.

Solving that problem became a passion project. Existing electric lift assist chairs were not fit for purpose. So Ian started from scratch working with designers, inventors, therapists and university research teams to develop a chair that was not only functional but good for you.

du was 7 years in the making. And worth every second.
